The 505 Class were hosted by Hayling Island 5-6 April for our annual start of season coaching
session called the Hayling Sharpener. This year we were blessed with perfect weather and
cloudless blue skies. We had top coach Adam Bowers in attendance – known for his legendary
debriefs, motivational feedback and often hilarious insights into how practically every team could
improve.

After a windy Saturday and debrief we had a very enjoyable evening meal in the dining room
(fish and chips / club burgers seemed to be the main favourites). Sunday started with an epic
team breakfast, briefing and then back at it.

We had perfect weather and a wide range of experience and abilities from all parts of the fleet.
There were some top visiting boats and a host of locals new to the class so it was a really good
mix. Of the 10 boats in total we have 5 visitors and 5 locals so it was a perfect balance.
The 505 is high performance dinghy racing at its best and is perfectly suited to sailing at Hayling
Island – especially enjoying wind and waves in the bay.

The 2026 505 World Championships are being held at Hayling Island and we are currently one
of the fastest growing fleets so if you would like to give 505 sailing please apply here.
