We are delighted to be holding the 2023 505 UK Nationals at Tynemouth SC.

The Venue

Tynemouth SC has a long involvement with running championships – predominantly Enterprise (Worlds and Nationals) and International 14s (including the 2021 POW). The club is located on a quiet beach a short walk from the centre of Tynemouth. More information about the club is available at http://tynemouthsc.co.uk/

The Event

We have a packed programme with 4 days of racing scheduled. There will be a Commodore’s reception on Thursday evening and pasta after sailing each day. After sailing, the class will look to host daily debriefs over refreshments in the club with the top sailors participating in a Q&A forum about set-up and tactical thinking from the day’s racing.

The winner of the regatta Glen Truswell commented “A picturesque club with great race management, amazing “northern” hospitality and the best large course championship racing conditions I have experienced and enjoyed in many, many years!

So, if you haven’t already made plans to come to the UK’s premier 505 event this season what’s stopping you? If you are already coming then why not make an effort persuade your mates to come too?  The sooner you enter, the better the club can plan for the fleet, so get your entry in now.

Getting There

Tynemouth is located on the east coast 8 miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne, and so has excellent transport links. If you are flying then Newcastle airport is 25 minutes away. Newcastle central train station (direct train under 3 hours from London) is under 20 minutes away. For ferries North Shields (to Amsterdam) is 2 miles from the sailing club.

Where to Stay

There is plenty of accommodation on AirBnB & booking.com locally and in nearby Whitley Bay.
Campervans are not allowed at the Club.

What Else To Do

Tynemouth has a number of beautiful beaches (3 to be precise!), including a very popular surf beach – Longsands, so bring your surf board! If ruins are your thing then there’s Tynemouth Priory and Castle on the cliffs just above the sailing club. Newcastle city centre is easy to reach by Metro train or car.
