Royal Lymington YC are hosting the 505 Nationals 9-12th May, and served the fleet a cracking first day’s sailing, with plenty of wind to keep the sailors entertained.  A gentle morning breeze built steadily before the first race, giving solidly fun conditions for the race.   The second race started into the teeth of strong squall, which was also whipping up the waves over the strengthening ebb, and the whole race was full-on throughout.

Close racing throughout the fleet and some awesome downwind legs made for enjoyment for all, with two local Netley teams heading the overnight leaderboard, Roger Gilbert/Ben McGrane (GBR9215, results 2,1) holding a slim lead over Dan Holman/Sam Pascoe (GBR9222, results 1,4) just in front of the former world champions Mike Holt/Rob Woelfel (USA9072, results 3, 2).

The forecast for the rest of the event is for lighter winds, so this year’s champions will have proved themselves across the wind range.  We can’t wait to see what happens next.
